At the start of the second half of the year, our commitment to nurturing young talent and providing valuable industry knowledge was stronger than ever. At a recent event, Adrian Kok, Principal Power Test, took centre stage and captivated a room full of eager students with a riveting discussion on Malaysia’s key role in the global semiconductor landscape.
Adrian gave a deep insight into the evolving dynamics of the industry — from the impact of geopolitical tariffs to the rich career prospects that await budding engineers. The event was not just about information, but also inspiration to equip future professionals with knowledge that will help them navigate the opportunities in this fast-growing sector.
Key takeaways from the session:
🔹 Malaysia ranks as the sixth-largest semiconductor exporter globally, with shifting geopolitical landscapes propelling growth and opening doors for local engineers.
🔹 The semiconductor industry is driven by four key forces—electric vehicles, green energy, AI, and consumer electronics—making it an exciting and rapidly evolving field.
🔹 The career opportunities in semiconductor testing, manufacturing and development are enormous for students with a degree in mechanical engineering, E&E, mechatronics or related disciplines. Whether you aspire to a role in quality assurance, process engineering or IC design, getting there starts with mastering the industry’s core competencies.
In addition to technical expertise, the event also emphasised collaboration, adaptability and continuous learning — essential qualities for a successful career in the semiconductor industry. Organised by the IEM-UTeM student section, the initiative aimed to bridge the gap between budding engineers and real-world industry insights. A week later, this learning experience was further enhanced by a visit to our office and laboratory, where the students were given a hands-on insight into semiconductor testing.
To make the visit even more interesting, UTeM alumni led the sessions so that students could learn directly from their seniors who have made a career at AccoTEST. The half-day event began with an introduction to the working lives of UTeM alumni at AccoTEST, outlining their career paths, global experiences and contributions to the industry. The students then explored our lab and witnessed a live demonstration of PMIC testing by an alumnus, followed by an insightful Q&A session with our SEA Applications Manager, CZ Lim, which ensured a thorough understanding of semiconductor testing techniques.
As we continue our commitment to industry engagement, we look forward to inspiring even more young people and equipping future engineers with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the semiconductor industry.
